What is the philosophy of your program?
Geelong SC Learn to Swim is based on Royal Lifesavings Swim & Survive program, teaching water safety and correct stroke technique. This provides various pathways into the 50 or so aquatic activities available in our region.
Do classes run during school holidays?
Yes, classes run for 49 weeks of the year with a 3 week break over Christmas.
Do we offer intensive classes?
Yes, we also offer additional intensive classes, which can be purchased, during some school holidays. Email notification will be sent prior to an intensive program being offered.
Do classes run during Public Holidays?
No, we observe public holidays including the Geelong Cup in lieu of the Melbourne Cup.
How do I enrol?

What does my child need to bring?
A cap, pair of goggles, towel and warm clothes. Caps, goggles and hooded towels are available for sale on site.
If you happen to forget your cap and goggles, please come see the staff at the desk who will organise some spares for you.
Can I watch my Childs’ lessons?
Yes, we have two seated areas on pool deck, the first being at the end of the small pool and along the far (opposite admin desk) wall. There is also a viewing window from the foyer where table and chairs are also available.
Who do I talk to if I have a query?
Staff at the desk are happy to take your questions.
How long are the lessons?
We have a unique system whereby each level grouping increases in time in line with your Childs’ fitness and ability.
Level 01 to 03+ lessons are for 30min.
Level 04 to 06 lessons are for 45min.
Level 07 to 09 & advanced are for 60min.
How many students are in a class?
We aim at:
Level 01 to 03+ up to 4 students
Level 04 to 06 up to 6 students
Level 07 to 09 up to 8 students
Advanced classes up to 15
How do you decide when children move up a level?
If they meet the performance criteria outlined in our curriculum as determined by our staff. Swimmer’s progress can be tracked via our customer portal online.
How do you handle discipline issues?
The swim school promotes listening and respect for their teacher and their classmates. If we encounter issues, they will be discussed with you and your child.
Will my child get the same instructor every time?
We try to ensure the same instructor for the same class however Instructors may change depending on availability (holidays, competitions, sick days etc)
As a parent can I approach an instructor during a lesson?
No, we always have staff at the desk to answer parent enquiries.
If my child’s instructor is absent, who is the substitute?
A similarly qualified teacher who has the same lesson plan derived from our curriculum, this way the student receives the same lesson no matter the teacher.
What kind of ongoing training do instructors receive?
Our instructors continue to upgrade their skills and attend education sessions as part of our Professional Development program. We run workshops every 6-8 weeks as part of that ongoing training.
Do staff have CPR and/or First Aid training?
All deck supervisors are first aid trained and instructors have CPR and Defibrillation training.
